I know I’m way late on this, but trouble was waiting on out return home and I’ve been too tired to gather brain mass together to write this. My apologies for the lateness. I will do this in several parts since I’ve not had much luck formatting multiple cuts in one post. I know I will forget people, and for that I am very sorry. It was confusing to keep track of con and LJ/DW names especially since I suck at remembering names anyways.

Friday morning was crazy with two kids and the two of us to get loaded up and on the road at 7am, even after several days of packing a preprep. By the time we got to Madison we were already running a few mins late, and the construction in the area made it so I finally got into my writer’s workshop about 30 mins late besides. (hangs head shamefully)

The workshop was great. I know at the Michelangelo’s after event I heard several people complain about the quality of the stories they got in their group, but I didn’t have that experience at all. I’m not sure it’s okay to mention names of the non pro authors there, so I’ll just say all three of their work was quality stuff. Our pro was Delia Sherman and between her and my three fellow writers I got great comments on Path of the Huntress that will really help with the rewrites. I’m debating whether I want to keep it in third person or switch to first.

I actually got to make it to the Gathering party with both kids this year, and with the help of my friend bipagan actually got time to socialize with more folks then I could even dream to list (not to mention the fact every time I try to do too many usernames the code messes up). Seeing so many of my LJ/Dreamwidth friends like Unusual_Music, Mystickeeper, Cabell, and Deepad was fun as well as friends I only ever get to see at the cons like Tempest, Maevele, Littlebutfierce, and Naamen.

I was also able to get a few new books at the giveaway table for my son for a buck a piece which will help with keeping up with his ravenous reading habit, and a few pieces of clothing from the swap. The only bad side was missing the CA 101 class I wanted to check out because we didn’t get into our hotel room until about then.

I rushed from there off to the rehearsal for the broaduniverse skit. It was a fun time for the most part, much silliness, though I got nervous near the end that I was going to miss my very special dinner date. As it was when we finished I sprinted downstairs and luckily found the folks I was looking for.

I had an surprisingly expensive dinner with the coolness group of people (thanks to Deepad for sharing the eggplant parmesan with me to help me cut costs, and Sparkymonster for covering my bill in exchange for a copy of Ancestral Magic.) like Asim, SparkyMonster, Naamen, Nojojojo, Badgerbag, and two banquet tables worth of fen, so many that I have to move from table to table just to get to talk to even a quarter of them. It was like soaking in awesomeness. Not to forget Pantryslut's uber cute twins in thier adorible legwarmers that I just wanted to gobble up with kisses for dessert. I wish the call of pre-performance happenings hadn’t pulled me away as soon as it did.

The skit at the opening ceremonies went well I think, though the slew of bad puns throughout the script left the audience groaning. I had to leave quickly after to deal with a kidlet emergency that called my daughter’s dad off of AV duty so I could relieve him. Diva lass and her drama (sigh)

I didn’t even make it to a panel until my first panel I was on, “NOT ANOTHER F*CKING RACE PANEL”. OMGoddess that was the most fun panel EVER! It was set up in a game show format with cardboard with the categories up on the wall, and a nerf type gun for the audience to hit the cardboard targets with. The audience asked the questions, and the only rule was the answers had to be non race related. Naamen, Nojojojo, Tempest, and Nnedi were on the panel (poor Nnedi, not only was she overtired from the trip, but we quickly got far more degenerate in the questions or our answers then I think she wanted to deal with) and wow did we laugh. In fact there was so much laughter that people kept filing into the room until it was packed with two rows of folks standing at the back. We soooooo have to do this panel again next year.

The Broad Universe Rapidfire Reading had a much bigger turnout then I expected and I read a new section from Ancestral Magic that I hadn’t preformed before that seemed to go over well enough. The big challenge is that the paranormal stuff doesn’t happen until much later in the story so finding a piece for the Spec crowd without it containing spoilers is quite the trick.

I was exhausted by the time I reached the hotel room at near 1 am. I’m used to far earlier ending evenings, knowing I never sleep very late in the morning. The country girl in me I guess. It was a great day though. I wish I wasn’t so tired or I'd done this post Friday night and remembered more.
