I applied at a local university yesterday, at least did the online application part. I have to wait to come up with the $44 fee to send it in. I’m still looking over my course/degree options, not sure what will fit what I want to do best. I know I want to do youth counseling of some kind, though I realize more of those require a master’s degree. My hope is to find some way for my bachelors to get me working while I complete the master’s education. I can’t get in with a career councilor until I’ve applied, nor can I sign up for financial aid until I apply, so…I applied. I’ve taken the first step. We’ll see what happens after that.

Are there any combo bachelor's-master's programs in that field? Or any programs that would involve some kind of (paid!) internship, etc.? When my brother was getting his degree he was in a program where he'd do something like 3 semesters of school & then spend 1 + the summer working, or something like that, but he was in engineering school.

Does the school have fee waivers? You've probably already looked into that so I apologize if I'm just being obvious!!

Good luck!

If there's any way they can waive the application fee for you, you'd think they'd put that in a really obvious place on the website--but sadly I would not be surprised if they didn't!!!

Maybe they have open house days for the program you want to attend? Or maybe there's someone who'd be willing to speak to you beforehand? I dunno, like maybe if you check out the school's webpage & look at the professors in the department whose program you're interested in... & if there's one or two people whose bio sounds like their interests are what you want to do, you might try e-mailing them to request an informal informational chat. I dunno, I've done that w/jobs, maybe it will work!

That's really great that they have a good AASS for you--definitely sounds like a good reason for you to go to that school!! I hope they are helpful.

& *hugs* you can do this! Even though it seems overwhelming... one step at a time & all that stuff.

Beat me to it! Yes, they have fee waivers (I can tell by the app fee that it's a UW campus). You have to fill out a form (.PDF) and send it to the admissions folks.

If you're applying for the Fall 2009 term, they want your application to be complete by the deadline (August 3 for UWM, this year). This means that they'll want any transcripts, and the fee waiver request in their office by then.

(Note: I used to answer these questions professionally. Feel free to ask any other questions! Here or in email or whatever.)
